How we choose the plants and plant-care products we mention — and what we don’t claim.
This page explains how Indoor Plants Home selects the plants and products mentioned in our guides and shopping shortlists.
We don’t publish fake testing
Unless a guide explicitly says a product was used and tested hands-on, our product mentions are not based on lab testing or long-term trials. We never invent test results, star ratings or “best overall” awards based on data we don’t have.
How we choose products
- Plant fit: does the product match the real needs of the plants it’s meant for (light, water, drainage, humidity, support)?
- Established guidance: does it follow widely accepted horticultural practice — for example, pots with drainage holes and airy potting mixes?
- Practicality: is it easy to use and suitable for typical homes?
- Safety: are there pet, child or electrical safety considerations readers should know about?
- Value: is it available at a range of prices, so readers can choose what suits their budget?
Why we link to search results instead of listing prices
Prices, sellers and reviews change constantly. Rather than show outdated information, our shopping shortcuts usually link to current search results so you can compare options, recent reviews and return policies yourself.
How we choose plants for shortlists
Plants in our “best plants” lists are selected for how well they tolerate the conditions described (such as low light or humidity), how forgiving they are for beginners, how widely available they are, and — where relevant — their pet toxicity status according to the ASPCA database.
