Editorial Standards
How Indoor Plants Home researches, writes, updates and corrects its plant-care guides.
Indoor Plants Home exists to give readers clear, trustworthy houseplant advice. These standards describe how we create and maintain our content.
Accuracy and sources
- We base care guidance on established horticultural information from reputable sources, such as university and government extension services, botanical gardens and recognised plant societies.
- Pet toxicity information is checked against the ASPCA toxic and non-toxic plant database.
- Where it helps readers, we link to the sources behind key recommendations.
- When advice genuinely varies — for example, watering frequency — we explain the factors involved rather than giving a false one-size-fits-all rule.
What we won’t do
- Invent test results, product reviews, star ratings, prices or expert credentials.
- Present popular myths as facts, such as claims that a few houseplants replace ventilation or air purifiers.
- Let affiliate commissions or advertisers decide what we recommend.
- Give medical or veterinary advice. For plant ingestion by people or pets, we direct readers to professionals.
How guides are written
Our guides are written for a general audience in plain language. Each guide aims to answer a real reader question quickly, then give the detail needed to act on it — with steps, tables, checklists and FAQs where they’re genuinely useful.
Some content is drafted with the help of AI writing tools. Every guide is edited before publishing, key facts are checked against reputable sources, and we update or correct content when better information comes to light.
Updates
Guides display the date they were published or last meaningfully updated. We review important guides periodically and when readers point out issues.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we fix it. See our corrections policy.
Independence and affiliate links
Product mentions are chosen based on how well they suit a plant’s needs. Some links are affiliate links; read our affiliate disclosure and product selection methodology.
